iOS Staff Software Engineer

😎 Our Culture

Quantum Metric's number one objective is happy people, diverse and inclusive culture.  We’re passionate about empowering our people to become the best version of themselves, offering coaching and training programs designed to accelerate their career in whatever direction they choose.

As a remote-first company, we understand the importance of building an engaged, diverse, and fun place to work. We hold regular company-wide events, seasonal challenges, and Quantum Metric sponsored local outings when Zoom becomes too much. We also have a number of Employee Resource Groups that provide spaces to discuss, share, and reflect on topics that impact us both inside and outside of work - from being new to SaaS or navigating it as a first-time parent, to overcoming the barriers faced as Black, Hispanic, Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA or other underrepresented backgrounds.

We are also passionate about the connections we build with our customers. You’ll not only work with some of the world’s most recognized brands, but build lasting relationships.

At Quantum Metric we value all types of experience and education and don’t expect you to meet every qualification for this position. We are most interested in the unique perspective you can bring and your ability to uphold our values of passion, persistence, and integrity.

🚀 About the Role
You’ll be a leader on the Quantum Metric iOS SDK team – an SDK that runs on every iOS device owned by everyone you know. Our SDK revolutionizes how businesses serve their users. We empower real-time analytics that improve customer experiences and business outcomes. As a Staff iOS Software Engineer on our team, you’ll work deep inside iOS frameworks, as well as Flutter and React Native. Your day-to-day will involve reverse engineering how technologies like SwiftUI work under-the-hood in order to power favorable results for our customers and their customers.

Quality will be one of your key tenets. You need to understand how your architectural decisions impact our customers’ apps, and where risk is acceptable given potential benefits, and where those benefits do not outweigh those risks. Test automation will be near and dear to you, as it’s the only way we’ll be confident in our decisions across the entire universe of our customer apps.

As a hacker at heart, you’ll dig deeply into incredibly technical problems. LLDB will be one of your closest friends. But you’ll also have to work together closely with cross-functional teams and customers, being able to distill highly-technical situations into scenarios digestible by not only other engineers, but also sales, support, product, and executives.

🔧 Responsibilities

  • Be one of our technical iOS development leaders. You’ll be presented with high-level business problems and objectives, and have to determine the best technical approaches to achieve those, balancing risk and time-to-market.
  • Mentor more junior engineers. You’ll teach your colleagues “how to fish”, instead of giving them prescriptive guidance on how to solve each and every problem they encounter. Increasing the independence of each team member is a key focus of our team this year and beyond.
  • Establish best practices and processes. You’ll independently identify areas where our team can improve the way it works, collaboratively draft proposals, sell those to leadership stakeholders, and then take those proposals to completion.
  • Resolve customer issues. You’ll take customer feedback and determine what business problems they’re trying to solve, determine key impediments and arrive at novel solutions that balance a multitude of constraints and pragmatic realities.

💡Requirements

  • Expert-level understanding of iOS, Objective-C, and Swift. The bulk of our SDK is written in Objective-C, and an understanding of the Objective-C runtime is a must. That being said, most of our customer apps are heavily reliant on Swift. You need to have a high level of confidence in working across iOS technologies and architectures.
  • Understanding of and willingness to learn cross-platform mobile development platforms. Many of our customers leverage Flutter and React Native, and our iOS and Android SDKs support both. Supporting these technologies is imperative to our collective success.
  • Strong command of iOS testing frameworks such as XCUITest and Appium. Given the breadth of our customer apps, automation is crucial to maintain the quality bar our customers expect from our SDK. You’ll be a key contributor in ensuring we meet that bar by not only building automated tests, but also the overarching pipelines and frameworks that power those tests.
  • High-degree of independence. As a Staff engineer on our team, you’ll be presented with problems and need to take those to done with little oversight. Requirements and objectives will often be ambiguous. It is up to you to ask the right questions and ascertain what we need to solve, and then determine how to solve those problems and achieve positive results.
  • Using AI as a force multiplier. At Quantum Metric, AI isn’t just a fad, it’s integral to how we work. It’s imperative that you’re a thought leader on how we improve the way we work using AI tools, and imbue that into your workflows and our team’s workflows on a daily basis.
  • A hacker mentality. The problems we solve are not straightforward. They’re tough and require reverse engineering frameworks to achieve effectively. There’s no playbook for this. You need to be as comfortable with Xcode as you are with LLDB. Ideally, you have a deep understanding of iOS inner workings, including what “alpine” means. If you don’t today, you need to have an unending curiosity that will get you there within the first six months of your tenure at Quantum Metric.
  • Compensation: $170,000 - 185,000 Base | Bonus Eligible
